It was one of those perfect spring evenings in late May, 1951, at Andover Elementary School. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the trees surrounding the playground; their soft green newness a gentle contrast to the purples of the evening sky.
All the school’s students stood arm in arm; ready for the last song, while family and friends watched from blankets on the nearby, grassy hillside. A tired baby cried out, while two mutts chased one another. Distant lilacs blew their delicate scent across the field. This was the school’s annual spring pageant… (see the entire story)
