06/21/2006 - Rochambeau March, 225th Anniversary
Andover: As part of the 225th anniversary celebration of General Rochambeau’s march from Rhode Island to Yorktown, Revolutionary War reenactors will be marching through the town of Andover on Wednesday, June 21. The Andover Reenactment Committee and the town Historical Society are planning some events to welcome the marchers as they pass through town. Public is invited to join the marchers as they enter Andover on Merritt Valley Road at approximately 1 pm. From there, they will progress to the Andover Congregational Church where an authentic, period “snack” will be served. All are welcome to partake in Revolutionary War era foods. At 4 pm a commemorative marker will be dedicated at Hendee Road to be followed by period refreshments. Events are free, and people may join the marchers on their journey through Andover. 04/22/2007 - Rochambeau’s Army returns to Andover

Come hear the incredible adventures of a small group of dedicated reenactors who duplicated the French army’s march of 225 years ago, from Newport, Rhode Island to Yorktown,Virginia. The idea of duplicating the 600 mile march, to the calendar day, was conceived by Andover’s Richard Swartwout and his friend David Halloway. Both reenactors are members of the 6th Regiment, Connecticut Continental Line.

Serge’Gabriel, Chairman of the Connecticut Washington- Rochambeau Revolutionary committee, will honor us with a brief presentation explaining the French commitment to our revolution against the British.

Light Refreshments will follow the program

Directions: follow Rt 6 to the junction with Rt 316. Follow Rt 316-- 8/10 of a mile. Turn left onto School Road. The school is the 3rd town building on the left.

02/11/2007 - Andover Historical Society sponsors a program on Rochambeau Artifacts by Historian, Bruce Clouette.
March of the Rochambeau Army in Ct 1780-1782 Sunday, February 11, 2007 - 1:00PM, Old Firehouse, Andover, Ct.

The Andover Historical Society will sponsor a presentation by noted historian Bruce Clouette, Ph.D.,on Rochambeau's march through Connecticut.Bruce Clouette is the director of Historical Services for the Public Archeology Survey Team, Inc. His presentation will highlight how we know the location of the Army's encampments and which routes they followed. There will be photographs of actual artifacts discovered at these campsites and these photos will include musket balls and uniform buttons.

Refreshments will be served after the program.

If we encounter hazardous driving conditions, Bruce will give his presentation at the same time and place on February 18th.

10/29/2006 - Andover Historical Society - Rochambeau Dedication
On Saturday, October 28th at 3:00 p.m. our rain date of Sunday, October 29th at 1:00 p.m. there will be a dedication of a Rocheambeau monument at the east end cul-de-sac of Hutchinson Road. All invited to attend this special occasion.
10/12/2006 - Historical Society Meeting
The Andover Historical Society will hold a meeting Thursday, Oct 12 at 7:30pm. The meeting will be held at the Museum of Andover History.
08/20/2006 - Museum of Andover History Open
Ransford Button at the Museum of Andover History. Ransford, portrayed by Mike Donnelly, was an Andover resident from about 1820, when Andover was an Ecclesiastical Society, to about 1880. Ransford saw Andover become a town, witnessed the arrival of the railroad, saw the local effects of the Civil War and much more.
05/18/2006 - Andover History Talk
On Thursday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m. David Rhinelander will present the French contribution to the American victory in the Revolutionary War. He will talk about the French army's march from Newport, RI to Yorktown, VA. The march passed through Andover on June 21, 1781. This program will be held at the AES. Light refreshments will follow the talk. Andover resident Richard Swartwout, a Revolutionary War reeenactor will be dressed as a Continental Army soldier. He is a member of the 6th Reginment, CT Continental Line, circa 1744-1780. Join in this wonderful evening of Andover history.
01/19/2006 - Historical Society Meeting
The Historical Society will hold its annual meeting and biennial elections at 7:30 at the Museum of Andover History.
