Veteran’s Memorial Park Cleanup

Can you help cleanup the park? Residents will be gathering November 10, from 9:00 AM - noon.

In honor of Veterans Day and Andover’s veterans who have proudly served in the Armed Forces, Andover residents will be gathering at the town’s Veteran Memorial Park to do a little “fall cleaning”. The garden areas are terribly over-grown and are in desperate need of weeding, weed whacking and general garden clean up.

America's veterans have always placed our Nation's security before their own lives, creating a debt that we can never fully repay. Our veterans represent the best of America, and they deserve the best we can give them. Andover residents remember that the defense of freedom comes with great loss and sacrifice and we honor the men and women who have left America's shores but did not live to be thanked as veterans. These brave men and women will always be remembered by our town residents.

The Veteran’s Memorial Park is a source of great pride for Andover residents. Each year the Memorial Day parade participants stop at the Veteran’s memorial and place a wreath of flower at the site. Members of the Andover Beautification Committee plant and water flowers there all summer.

In 2002 the Veteran’s Memorial Park was expanded when the State Department of Transportation took the Old Creamery for the Route 6 improvement project. The area was graded and new trees and shrubs were planted along with a plaque signifying the site of the Old Creamery. Since the planting no maintenance of the area has taken place except lawn mowing and now weeds are three feet tall and have taken over the area.

With respect for and in recognition of the contributions our service men and women have made to the cause of peace and freedom around the world all Andover residents are invited to come join the work force at the Veteran’s Memorial Park on the corner of Route 6 and Route 316 on November 10 between 9:00am and noon to lend a helping hand. Bring gas weed-whackers, work gloves, garden tools and/or a wheel barrow, a friend and your community pride.

Rain date will be Sunday, November 11. For more information contact Dianne Grenier at 742-3033 or Deardianne@comcast.net
